“What’s up, T?” D’ltero asked as he flopped down on T’thalin’s bunk. D’ltero wasn’t a big guy but the way he sprawled out managed to make him seem like he was somehow taking up all available space on the bunk.
“Just thinking about, um, moving day tomorrow.” T'thalin offered. “I… don't have much, at least, mostly things for Roxarith.” He exhaled. “But we get our _own_ weyrs. Can you imagine-- a place just for us and our dragons.”
“Yeah, it’s pretty cool, isn’t it?” D’ltero agreed. “No idea how I’m going to decorate the place but I’ll figure that out as we go along. What about you? Oh wait, this is like, your first place that’s _yours_, right?”
T'thalin hesitated, and then nodded. “Mine and Roxarith’s.” He confirmed quietly. “I… I mean, we'll probably just get all our things from the stores. But… just _having_ a place…” He trailed off.
The grin widened. “Pretty wild, huh? All your stuff in one place, all yours. No one coming in and taking it. I mean, sorry, was that…that wasn’t rude of me to say, was it?”
“No, no.” T'thalin hurried to assure. “I don't actually… have all that much. I mean… the flood happened kind of fast. Most of what I have is for Roxarith, honestly.”
“Have you gone through the stores yet? In the Lower Caverns?”
T'thalin shook his head. “I mean, they gave me some spare clothes from there.” He offered. “But I, um. I didn't want anyone to think I was… lurking.”
“Lurking? Man, you really are Holdless!” D’ltero said with a laugh. He grabbed T’thalin’s arm and tugged him forward. “I mean that as a joke, you know right? Come on. Let’s go shopping!”
T’thalin blinked, baffled, but then he was getting to his feet and followed D’ltero willingly. “... Shopping? I mean, I have spare clothes…” he repeated. “And I thought the weyrs came furnished.”
“Bare necessities, yeah,” D’ltero told him. “But you gotta make it _yours_! Paintings, bedding, pillows. That stuff. And look, you can have more than one set of spare clothes. You’re a dragonrider!”
“I have more than one set of spare clothes!” T'thalin protested without any real heat, catching up to D'ltero. “I suppose more pillows wouldn't hurt.” He added, the idea gaining traction. “Maybe a soft blanket.”
Grinning at how his idea was taking root, D’ltero asked, “What’s your favorite color? We’re going to have to find some things for you in that too!”
“Well… Bronze.” T'thalin offered, sheepishly. “But, um… I like light blue?” He added. “And orange-- like the sunset.”
“Those are pretty colors,” D’ltero agreed. They reached the stores and he immediately dove into one of the rooms that had bedding and pillows. Digging into one of the piles, he tossed aside reject colors until he found a blue blanket and an orange one. “Here we go! Oh, look, matching pillows! And hey look, there’s this one here!” He started thrusting the colorful results at T’thalin.
“These blue ones are nice. Maybe with the orange pillows?” T'thalin suggested, took the items D'ltero was shoving his way. “Do… do you have any colours in mind for your weyr?”
“Blue probably,” the other weyrling answered. “Maybe not Helanth’s shade but blue. I like the color red too. Pretty much all of my wardrobe is like that. Reds, blues, yellows. Stand out colors. I like to be visible.”
“I, um. I prefer muted colours. For my outfits.” T'thalin responded. “But… I should. Well. I'm a bronzerider. I should… I should maybe buy one fancier outfit. Later!” He added hastily. “Just… just in case I have to go to a Gather or something.”
“You _absolutely_ need a Gather outfit!” The blue weyrling all but disappeared into a rack of clothes as he searched for something suitable. “This?” he suggested, pulling out a light orange tunic with a beaded hem. “This?” Another one, this time blue, with embroidery all over the sleeves. “What about this?” Soon enough, he had piled a dozen possibilities at T’thalin’s feet.
“... What about you?” T’thalin asked, though he crouched and began to sort through said clothing. “You should get to pick something too.”
“Oh, I’ve got plenty,” D’ltero answered. “I’ve been here a few Turns so I’ve acquired some things. You, on the other hand, you’ve got to catch up!”
“I don’t need _heaps_.” T’thalin protested, though without any real effort. “Do you have your weyr already planned out, then?”
The blue weyrling shook his head. “Nope, not one bit. I’ll figure it out when we move though. I’m not worried.” That’s how D’ltero moved through life -- not worried about what happened at all. He’d land on his feet or figure it out otherwise if he didn’t.
“That’s one way to plan.” T’thalin responded, but offered a grin. “Maybe I’ll have to see what you end up doing?”
“Yeah, but then you’d just be copying me! You gotta make it your own. It’s gotta be you!”
“I’m not _that_ hopeless, surely!” T’thalin protested, though he offered a grin. “I mean… Bed and table and a few chairs aren’t very hard to arrange?”
“Physically? No. But with style? Yes. That’s why those Lower Caverns women are always making a fuss -- because they can tell when we’re lacking style! Oh hey, if you don’t want to do it, maybe you can hire one of them to do it! I bet they’d love that.”
T'thalin blinked, then brightened a little bit. “I didn’t even think of that.” He said. “Another, um, good idea, D'ltero.”
“I’m full of them,” a beaming D’ltero said as he tossed T’thalin another piece to consider.
