So Very Convincing

Writers: Bree, Dana
Date Posted: 16th July 2006

Characters: T'voal, Shayla
Description: T'voal and Shayla spend a little time relaxing after a long day of drills.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 27 of Turn 3

T'voal dropped a kiss on the top of Shayla's head on his way past her into their sleeping area, already stripping his jacket off. "Drills ran long again," he called back over his shoulder. "Myarth was supposed to let you know."

"If you're gonna take a bath to wash away all the drills grime, I'll join you," she called back with a grin, setting down the straps she'd been mending.

His voice drifted out from the other room. "Are you trying to tell me I'm smelly?"

"Yep! But that wasn't a very subtle way of letting you know, was it?"

He poked his head out the door and made a face at her. "Not very. But since you're going to get in the bath with me, I'll let it go this time."

With a girlish giggle, she began walking towards him, stripping off her shirt as she came closer. "You can be bribed so easily, T'voal," she teased, leaning up to brush her lips against his. Then she wrinkled her nose. "And we're going to use _lots_ of sweetsand."

Snorting, the brownrider bent over and scooped Shayla up, tossing her over his shoulder. "Fine. Let's get moving before I get so smelly you decide you need to move out."

"You already _are_ so smelly. But I don't feel the urge to move out _quite_
yet," she laughed. "We better get you into the pool quickly though!"

T'voal was already moving in that direction. "I think you should say something nice to your weyrmate before he decides to dump you into the pool with your pants and boots still on."

Not her wher-hide boots! The sloshing water was fast approaching. "Mmmm....
You kiss good?"

"Uh-huh..." T'voal swatted at her backside. "That sounded _so_ convincing."

"I can think of very nice ways to convince you, T'voal--but you have to be nice! Don't even _think_ about throwing me in there!"

T'voal laughed and set her on her feet. "Are you going to stop calling me smelly, then?"

"Certainly I won't to your face," she grinned impishly. "Now come on. Let's get cleaned up." Quickly she kicked off her boots, glancing at him as she slipped out of the rest of her clothes.

He followed her into the bathing pool and let out a sigh as the water rose to his neck. "Shards, I hope your day wasn't as long as mine was!"

Lathering her hands with sweetsand, Shayla inched over to sit behind him.
Then she began to gently scrub at his shoulders, fingers kneading as she moved down. "Was it drills that made it unbearably long?"

"Mostly," he replied, his voice full of lazy pleasure as Shayla's fingers found the knot in his back. "Though you know, days seem a lot longer when you have this to look forward to..."

"What, a warm and willing girl scrubbing at your sweaty back for you?" she teased, leaning over to nip at his earlobe.

He laughed low in his throat, tilting his head back onto her shoulder so he could nuzzle her neck. "A warm, willing weyrmate. Even better."

She wrapped her arms around him, holding him fast. "You know, I _was_ going to finish your back, T'voal, but I think I'll work on your chest instead..."
She ran her soapy hands downwards, admiring the muscles and thinking how sharding lucky she was to have him as her weyrmate. "You're the reason why it was...easier for me to adapt to Weyrlife. Did you know that?" she asked quietly after a moment.

He'd seen enough people adapt poorly to know how badly it could have gone.
"I'm glad I could help. I know it's not an easy change, sweetheart."

Silently she brushed her cheek against his shoulder. "T'voal...can I ask you something?"

"Anything," he replied easily, turning so he could look at her. "You know that."

Shayla glanced up at him--her expression almost shy before she looked down again. "Out of all the girls that you...know... How come you chose me?"

He hesitated, regarding her seriously. "I don't know. At first it was just flirting, but... you grew on me. There was something about you that made me want to keep coming back to visit. And I wanted someone who wanted me more than every once in a while."

"I can never get enough of you," she murmured, blushing.

Chuckling, T'voal turned and tugged her into his arms. "Well, that's exactly what I wanted to hear."
