Night time

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 15th September 2006

Characters: Erassa, Corowal
Description: Sleepless Corowal mets Erassa caring for his baby daughter.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 13, day 26 of Turn 3

Corowal couldn't sleep. He couldn't get drunk either, not with the Turn Over preparations keeping his days full. So he ended up wandering the silent corridors of the sleeping hold. Automaticly he was drawn to the nursery, where little Wallia was. He was surprised to see Erassa was there too. He stopped at the door frame and watched quietly when she changed the baby.

"Do you feel better, Wallia? Are you going to fall asleep now?" she asked softly, leaning over to kiss the top of the tiny baby's head. "Or do you have more space in the little tummy of yours?"

A sad smile made The stewards lips curve upwards a bit.

Erassa pulled the baby's night dress back down and carefully lifted the child to her shoulder, rocking and patting the tiny back. Turning she was startled to see she was not alone. "Oh! Steward, I'm sorry. I didn't know you were there..."

"Don't let me disturb. I'm just wondering sleeplessly around and ended up checking on her," Corowal answered, his voice quiet.

"Well, by rights, sir, I would say I'm disturbing you," she said as she walked closer. "Did you want to hold her?"

"Sure. Has she been a good baby?" Corowal said and asked. He took the baby to his arms.

"Oh yes," she smiled. "I can't believe my son was this small just five months ago."

"They grow so fast," Corowal agreed. He inspected the baby's face. She had most incredbly blue eyes, her gaze wandering sleepily and aimlessly. "She looks much like Corolia when she was infant. Even the hair's same."

"She'll be a beauty," Erassa nodded with a soft smile. The child wasn't hers, and yet she could already start the stirrings of maternal pride.

"Like the big sister." Corowal was quiet for the moment. "She will never know her mother. She will be just a painting on the wall and a name in stories for her."

Erassa suspected it would be the same for her son and his father. "But she will never want for love, and that is most important."

"Yes, that's the most important thing. You know, I lost my real father when I was about Felcoron's age. I dont' remember him. But my mother remarried and the man she married _is_ my father now. He always treated me like I was his blood, and I never missed any other father, " Corowal said.

"She will have many questions, though." She reached out to pet the child's soft downy hair.

"Likely, but they can be answered," Corowal said. The baby had drifted into the sleep and he placed her back to her crib.
