"Hey, wait up!" Belamick called after the girl. "Did you just get here?
I haven't seen you in class before." He'd only been at the Weyr a sevenday, but maybe he could help show her around.

"Get here?" Tey smiled at the young man who had arrived so suddenly at her side. "No. I've always been here."

Belamick frowned, a bit confused, "You've been here at the Weyr? How come I haven't seen you in any of the classes if you're a candidate?"

"Because I've been a Candidate for a long time," Tey explained. "I don't come to all of the classes - just a few before each Hatching to refresh my memory."

"Oh." Belamick said with a half smile, slightly embarrassed for making the assumption. "Well, I'm Belamick."

"And I'm Tey." She extended her hand in greeting. "Where are you from Belamick?"

He took the hand gratefully, "I'm from the Healer Hall. Where were you from before you were Searched?"

Again she smiled. "From here. I was born here."

"Ahh, so you're one of those Weyrbrats." he teased, not oblivious to a pretty smile.

"I was, when I was little," she agreed. "I'm all grown up now."

Yes she was... but he wasn't brazen enough to admit to not only _noticing_ her figure, but to _apreciating_ it too. "So, if you're all grown up now, what do you do around here when you're not popping in for candidate classes?"

"I work in the lower caverns. Anything, really, but mostly laundry." She enjoyed her work and had a close group of friends among the women who did the mountain of washing required by the Weyr. Although it was nice to occasionally work in some other area when there was a need, she did prefer being in the laundry. "What about you - before you became a Candidate?"

Belamick pointed to his knots proudly, "I'm a Senior Apprentice Healer.
I plan on keeping up my studies until I impress, so I'm spending alot of time in the infirmary. It's alot different than in the regular Hall."

"Is it? In what way?" she asked curiously. Her only crafter sibling had only been at a Hall for a very short time, but perhaps the smith craft was different.

"Well, it's alot more of the practical I guess." He said after thinking a moment. The whole atmosphere of the Hall was different than the infirmary at the Weyr, but that was harder to explain, so he stuck with the obvious. "At the Hall we did alot of scenarios, you know, if we received a patient like this what would we do, sort of thing. Here, we actually _see_ a patient and have to do it. I mean we'd have real patients at the Hall... just not as many or as often."

"Less theory? Well, that doesn't seem too bad," said Tey, the eminently practical.

Belamick shook his head in agreement, "No, it's very interesting actually, I rather like it."

"And you're a Candidate, too. Are you enjoying that? Looking forward to Standing for the first time?"

He nodded, "Yeah, you know there is a whole lot the harpers don't tell you when you dream about becoming a dragonrider... but I think it's still worth it. And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous, but my best friend, Ioporol, will be there, so at least I won't be alone."

"Perhaps the harpers were telling you tales of dragonriding ... before."
Before the Pass. Before people believed that Thread could return.
"Things are different for those who Impress now."

"No," he said with a grin, "I'm pretty sure they forgot the part about mucking out weyrs, smelling like firestone all the time, things like that. Not that I still wouldn't jump at the chance."

"Obviously, otherwise you would be packing to go back to your Hall. Best of luck for the Hatching, then."

"You too." he said with a wave as they parted ways. He certainly hoped he'd be seeing her again!
