Characters: Ragletta, Kraygh
Description: Ragletta has a rude awakening but Kraygh promises to make it a good morning.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 2 of Turn 4

Ragletta groaned and buried her head deeper into her pillow. She was not ready to wake up, not even close. She'd been up very late working on her project. There were several Starsmiths and only a limited amount of equipment at the Weyr so she often had to take time-slots when even the most stalwart of her fellows had gone to bed. Not that she minded, of course, though it made mornings things to be avoided.

And as far as Ragletta could tell - without actually opening her eyes, that is - it wasn't much past dawn. Dragons weren't very considerate neighbors however, as yet another bugle penetrated the downy coccoon her pillow made around her head.

"Sharding dragons," the Starsmith muttered aloud, trying to burrow even deeper to escape the fact that she was rapidly reaching the point where easing back into sleep would be impossible. A shifting on the mattress next to her indicated her husband was either already awake or waking as well.

"You came to bed late," observed Kraygh. He'd been teaching earlier the previous day and as a result had gone to bed, and fallen asleep well before Ragletta. "I couldn't stay awake, I'm sorry."

Giving up on sleep for the day, Ragletta opened her eyes. "That's alright, you didn't have wait up." She rolled over and sat up a bit next to Kraygh and leaned against him. "I'll probably be late again tonight too," she added after yawning.

His arm went around her, marvelling as always how they just seemed to 'fit' together so naturally. "I wanted to, you were going to tell me about your observations of Belior."

Ragletta snuggled closer, enjoying the feeling of Kraygh's arm around her. She smiled, "I was, wasn't I? You know that new, high-power telescope? Well, that's why I was so late. It was the only time-slot open to use it. It's a marvel." While it wasn't the most powerful telescope on the continent by any means, it was the strongest that Ragletta had been allowed to use so far. The stronger telescopes at the crafthall had always been reserved for the Masters and very senior Journeymen.

"The craters on Belior were amazingly clear. I made some sketches to go with my notes," she wiggled free and leaned over the edge of the bed where she'd dumped her satchel with her notes and sketchbook.
Retreiving the sketches from the satchel, she returned to her husband's side and began showing him. Each crater she'd drawn was carefully labeled telling where it was located, what its name was if it had been named (and suggesting one if it hadn't!), its size and a myriad of other details. "I'll be compairing all that to the official records later, of course," she added, gesturing towards her notes.
"Maybe I got lucky and found some new ones."

"You might have done." He smiled at her and admired the sketches. "And there are other ways to get lucky as well."

"Is that so?" Ragletta asked, grinning at her husband, "Well if we put these sketches somewhere, I can show you just how lucky you could be," teased Kraygh.

Ragletta quickly gathered the sketches from her husband's hands and set them on the beside table. "Maybe this'll be a nice morning after all."

"Of course it will." He bent to kiss her.

"Mmm, prove it," Ragletta mummered just before his lips met hers and a wonderfully familiar warmth began spreading through her. Shells, but she loved him. When she'd agreed to marry him, she knew her friends and family had been skeptical. But they didn't know him like she did.
What had begun simply as a professional friendship had quickly grown into much, much more. He grounded her and completed her and she couldn't imagine life without Kraygh.
