Description: Tey questions B'lamick about why he missed morning drills
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 15 of Turn 5
"Did you oversleep?" Tey teased as she came alongside the young bronzerider, pleased to see he was at the afternoon's drills, as sketchy as they would be since things had gone well in the morning.
"I got caught out in a storm." B'lamick replied. "I took Briata sledding up at the place V'rek is always talking about and a nasty one came up over the mountains before we could get out."
Tey frowned. What was it about the former Lady Warder that she always turns up in B'lamick's stories these days? "Was this Briata's idea?"
B'lamick looked at Tey, confused. Why would she think it was Briata's idea? "No, it was mine. She can't get out of the Weyr like we can, and I thought it might be fun for her. It was, too, until that storm."
"I thought she came from somewhere that has snow." Tey was sure she'd seen plenty of it around Garnet Valley.
"So, she was still stuck at the Weyr, and I wanted to go. V'rek gave me his sled and everything." B'lamick replied defensively. He didn't know what Tey's problem was. "It's not Briata's fault we got stuck up there. It was just a freak storm. If anything, it's mine because I should have been paying more attention."
"Huh." Somehow it still felt like the former Lady Warder's fault to Tey. "All right. You didn't end up with any frozen extremities? Toes going black and having to be cut off or anything exciting?"
B'lamick raised up his gloved hand that hid his bandages. "Nothing frozen. Got a bit of a nasty cut though. I had to cut my way into a wood shed that got iced over and my boot knife slipped."
Tey couldn't help it. As much as she tired to keep from smiling her lips refused to cooperate. "Doesn't exactly sound heroic," she teased, though perhaps it had been necessary. What a waste - endangering a bronzerider in such a situation. Endangering _B'lamick_.
B'lamick chuckled, he loved that look on Tey's face. "It wasn't. I was just a shivering klutz. The worst part is I dropped the knife back there someplace, so I'm going to have to go back there and find it."
"Perhaps you'd better take ... hmm. Me?" Not that she had any desire to mess around in snow, but she would be more careful to make sure no harm came to B'lamick than Briata seemed to have been.
"What, afraid I'll get trapped again?" B'lamick asked. "Sure, you can come, but I'm not going back there until spring thaw. I've had enough snow for awhile."
"But won't the knife be ... washed away or something?" Tey had had lessons in all manner of things as a young dragonrider, but her interest in intricacies of snow were minimal. "When the snow melts and the water runs downhill and causes floods?"
"Hmmm." B'lamick hadn't thought of that. He really did like that knife. "I guess you're right. But you don't need to go with me. I'll just go after drills tomorrow. It shouldn't be that hard to find."
"If you're going, I'm going," Tey said with a firmness unusual to her. Then at least she would be there to warn him about snow storms or whatever they liked to be called.
B'lamick laughed. "Yes mother. I won't go without you. You can hold my hand too so I don't get lost."
"And to keep it warm, I suppose," Tey grumbled happily. "After drills tomorrow? I'll meet you - where?"
B'lamick threw his arms out to encompass the bowl. "Here, I suppose. Let's just jump over right after drills. It hopefully won't take long."
Tey hoped so, too, but all she said was: "I'll dress warmly."
