U'das was bit disappointed when Orlaith's summons via Zackariath reached
him. Just as he had found someone to flirt with, someone closer to his age
who didn't make him
feel like their grand-pa.
Excusing his company, he headed to find Rhosyn.
She had wandered just a bit from where she had watched that moron walk off.
Seeing U'das coming,
she still had that angry look in her eyes that said she wanted to murder
something. Her hands were held
stiffly by her sides and she didn't even notice the tray of sweetrolls going
by.
"Something wrong, Rhosyn?" he asked, trying to read her expression and body
language. "What I get from the dragons seemed like you were about to start
a brawl," he grinned.
"Oh I was seriously considering it, nevermind that the man was probably
twice my height and
four times my weight." She fumed, though she still spoke in lower tones so
folks couldn't
overhear. "I just met N'vanik's new Wingleader. Suffice it to say the man is
an idiot without
any manners. And apparently he thinks you're going to go bend me over
somewhere."
"Would you like me to?" U'das quipped, he just couldn't resist saying it.
"Who is this person?" he asked with more serious tone.
"See that's just it. I don't know. I asked him where he was from and he
wouldn't give me a straight
answer-just that he was weyrbred. His name is D'hol. Do you know a D'hol
from anywhere?" An
unladylike noise came out of Rhosyn before she quieted herself again. "More
like A'hol I think.
And while I'm sure I would enjoy it, I didn't like the way he was talking
about you. Shells, U'das
you have more class and experience and turns... Bet he was never Weyrleader
anywhere." Snorting,
Rhosyn was finally calming down. "I need to tell N'vanik the man needs to be
watched or shipped off."
U'das thought that if N'vanik was like other Weyrleaders, he probably
wouldn't like to get advice from her. U'das really didn't know Dolphin
Cove's Weyrleader that well. "I'm sure
N'vanik can handle it," he said a bit cautiously. "As for D'hol...name does
sound familiar. I might
have run into him while I was in North," U'das continued.
Which might explain why D'hol had a bad image of U'das. When Selja died, he
had been suicidal. That could damage your reputation. If he was a younger
bronzerider, he might not remember U'das at his best.
"He wasn't young maybe only a decade less than you which is why I thought
you might know him,"
she said, trying to guess the direction of his thoughts.
"Oh, I remember him now," U'das' grin was slightly malicious. "When I was in
North, before Selja's death, Zack won an open Weyrleadership Flight once.
Caught
her right in front of his bronze's nose. That sting, I know the feeling.
D'hol had some time and effort invested in the Gold's rider beforehand, you
know what I mean by that," he continued his story. Rhosyn was used to having
bronzeriders vying for her attention. All goldriders were.
She was listening and all ears. Any information she could glean about this
potential new problem was
a way to prepare herself. Rhosyn didn't need any more problems. The thing
this D'hol would learn about
her, though-she would always win. It might take some suffering and some
pain, but she would come out
in the end. Lucky that he wasn't in her Weyr, though. She already had
M'galec. "What did he do?"
"The same every bronzerider does in his stead," U'das replied. "It was open
Flight, so we were from all over Northern Weyrs. D'hol and I weren't
actually ever in the same Weyr. Don't take me wrong, I never heard anything
but good things about him. He's a good Wingleader. His style is just
totally different than mine. I'm kind of relaxed, while he's hard-nosed,
blunt and private. Ambitious like all of us. Bit like G'nir, now that I
think about it."
"Hmmm but G'nir was always polite to me. This guy-he didn't even know me and
he was completely rude. Like that holder from the other hatching." She
frowned,
remembering how that had ended and was thankful she had avoided a similar
fate
this time. "Ah well, I'll talk to N'vanik. For now, let's...go somewhere
else-maybe get
some water."
"Bit like, not the same," U'das chuckled. "And G'nir has common border with
us, he knows you."
"True. This guy seemed to think he knew me." Snorting, she headed for
somewhere
else to cool down and be away from people for a bit.
