He was reeling. He was dizzy and he didn't know what to
believe or what to think. Sarban got up and
left his office, in search of his
cousin. It wasn't hard to find him especially for the Steward, but he
waited
until Corowal was alone-trying his best to hide his distress.
Fidgeting and scratching his face, he stood
there.

"Okay, what it is,
cousin?" Corowal asked. He hadn't missed Sarban's fidgeting and something told
him it
was personal, not hold-business.

"She's back." That was all he
knew to say since there were no words for how confused and utterly
helpless
he felt at that moment. After so many months, he was right back where he had
been. It
was like no time had gone by and he resented feeling so
helpless.

Corowal needed not to be told who she referred to. He could
clearly remember how Sarban had been
when she left. "I thought she was gone
for good," he said softly.

"I did too but here she is and she's hurt and
she's got this story. Sounds like sharding crackdust
but yet... I don't know.
Went to her Aunt's, took care of her, ended up getting some valuable
stuff,
and then the place burned down and she came here." He shook himself,
not able to believe it. But
she *was* hurt.

"Wow, sounds like she had
it rough. Do you want to investigate it? A fire is something that will cause
talk,"
Corowal said and asked.

"I mean....is that okay? Would she find
out and think I didn't trust her?" He didn't know women. Corowal
had more
women than he knew what to do with.

"If you tell her down right you're
investigating her story, at least you'll appear as honest. Sneaking
behind
her back and her finding it
later will make her more angry than bit of mistrust," Corowal advised. He had
lot

of experience about the issue. "If you're
not telling her, them make sure she doesn't find it out," he continued.
That
was the difficult part. Little secrets had a bad habit of getting
out.

"Well, it wasn't our territory so I'll have to
send a drum message or firelizard or something to Lord Xesin about
it.
Courtesy and all that. If it's his investigation, I wouldn't have to say
anything, would I?" That sounded better.
Sarban would just ask for the
details when it was all said and done to see if it checked out.

"A fire
would always been investigated," Corowal agree, "It's worth a
trying."

"Okay...well...if Felyna isn't too busy, maybe she can
have lunch with her or something. Get
a read on things. Women will talk to other
women." Sarban had found that out all too often.

"If she can't, you can
try Arippa. She's of Blood, I bet she knows how to," Corowal suggested.

"Aye but Arippa is so
much younger. I doubt Lisadi would speak to her about things."
Sarban
doubted that would be useful. Either way, he
would at least get in touch with Xesin so that gave
him something to do and focus on. "Allright, I'll send a message to Xesin.
See what he says."

"Yes, he might have the whole story
already uncovered, so there would be no need to bother the
Ladies," Corowal agreed.

"Well thanks for hearing me out. I'm just...I can't think
straight you know? I don't know who
to believe and it's just weird knowing that
all of a sudden she's back. My instincts seem all wrong
since I never thought she'd leave in the first
place." He groaned and wiped his face, hoping he
could get this straightened out
quickly.

"She did come back though. Perhaps there something or somebody
here she missed," Corowal said.

"She said she'd like to pick up where we left off. She
still cares about me. I just...ah shells Corowal.
I need to check on this thing first." She had
shattered his trust when she left. Now he had to figure
out if he could pull it back together.

"Give her chance," Corowal advised. Nothing would please him more than
see his cousin safely married.
