Persona Profile: Hautarin

Writer: Sia

Name: Hautarin
Age: 21
Birthday: m10 d11
Birthplace: Dragonsfall Weyr
Rank: Candidate
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Job: Lower Caverns

Physical Description of Persona:
Hautarin stands on the taller side of average with a sturdy, solidly built frame that speaks to physical work rather than any particular athletic ambition, though he's known to play defense in whatever seasonal game organized by his peers. He's strong through the shoulders and arms, with the sort of practical muscle developing from mucking out animal pens, hauling supplies, and helping with the daily busywork that keeps a Weyr running. He has a healthy back and doesn't shy away from the physical tasks. As such, he's rarely dressed to impress, though he does take care to look presentable when the occasion calls for it.

His hair is medium brown and curly, though kept somewhat short so that it doesn't fall into his eyes while he's working. His complexion is fair with a healthy farmer's tan across his face and forearms, and his eyes are a warm hazel-brown.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Hautarin is a practical, hardworking young man, and more than just his mother says so. He has a solid career in the lower caverns awaiting him should he not Impress in this last hatching. His work ethic is commendable, and despite his father's pressure to have him Impress and Impress _well_, he has no qualms about continuing his work supporting the Weyr. He takes comfort in the routine and structure and knowing exactly what is expected of him. He likes being able to turn his mind "off" when the tasks are rote and repetitive. He's straightforward and approachable, though more comfortable with familiar people and less certain around strangers, especially newcomer holderfolk that come in a few times a turn from Search. He's a reliable friend, if not always a tactful one. Acts of service is his love language and he has a memory for important things.

He's considerably more stubborn than he might initially appear, and finds it difficult to let things go. He struggles with thinking creatively and gets stuck in his ways, even if an easy solution is within reach. He's not even Standing necessarily because he wants it, at this point, but he's been doing so since he was old enough because the Weyr constantly needs the bodies on the Sands and to appease his father's family. He's sure he'd make a fine dragonrider if one chose him, but he's not holding out for one either. It would feel strange for him to not see it all the way through.

History of Persona:
Hautarin was born at Dragonsfall Weyr, the son of bluerider H'tain and Lessaine, a cook in the lower caverns kitchens. His father wasn't much of a presence in his life, though about as much as any dragonrider who thought it _neat_ to have children that bore some kind of resemblance to them and an entertaining enough diversion for an otherwise boring afternoon. He hardly noticed when H'tain transferred to Dream's End Weyr when he was eight-- he saw his father whenever he visited extended family and other children, which wasn't really any more often than his usual visits. Even still, his father's family strongly encouraged him to stand for hatchings when he was of age. He didn't need the pressure- not many twelve turn olds saw dragons and thought 'not for me'. He's still Standing now, though it's more out of habit and expectation than any real desire to become a dragonrider. When his father transferred back in early turn 13, the pressure to Stand intensified, though he knows there is nothing he can do differently.
